Second Baptist Church of Kalamazoo, Michigan is a spirit-filled body of believers. Since its establishment in 1855, Second Baptist Church has been preaching the Good News of the gospel of Jesus Christ and educating believers to live life according to the uncompromising Word of the Bible.

The tradition of strong, pure, biblical teaching continues to be the hallmark of Second Baptist's ministry.

Our Mission

Go ye therefore, and teach all nations baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. (Matthew 28:19)

It is our mission at Second Baptist Church to glorify God by introducing Jesus as Lord to as many people as possible and develop them in Christian living using the most effective means to impact the world, making an internal difference in this generation and many generations to come.

Our Vision

It is our vision that our ministries at Second Baptist Church will present the Gospel of Christ in such a way that it turns non-believers into converts; educating them with the teachings of God's Word into mature and fruitful Christians who in turn will reflect God's love to those around them and effectively introduce them to the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

What We Believe

We believe the scripture, both Old and New Testament, to be the inspired Word of God. This Church accepts the King James Bible from Genesis through Revelation as all sufficient bases of doctrine and practice. (Psalm 19:7-10, 119: 1-5; Proverbs 30 5-6; Isaiah 40:8; II Timothy 3:16; II Peter 1:20-21)

We believe in one God, creator, and ruler of all things, infinitely: perfect and eternally existing in three persons, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. (Genesis 1:27, 3:1-19; Psalm 8:3-6; Isaiah 53:6; Romans 1:18-32; 3:32, 12:2)

We believe that the Holy Spirit convicts of sin, makes believers children of God through the new birth, assures them of heaven, and by His indwelling, enables Christians to live a godly life. (Ephesians 2:8-9)

We believe that all men are sinners by nature and choice, sinful and lost and have within themselves no possible means of salvation without Christ. (Genesis 1:27, 3:1-19; Psalm 8:3-6; Isaiah 53:6; Romans 1:18-32; 3:23, 12:2)

We believe in salvation by grace through faith, that salvation is the free gift of God, not by any virtue or works of man, but received only by personal faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, and all true believers possess the gift of eternal life, a perfect righteousness, son-ship in the family of God, and the divine guarantee that they shall never perish. (John 10:29; Ephesians 1:13-14; II Timothy 1:12; Hebrews 7:25, 10:10-14; I Peter 1:3-5)

We believe that man was created in the image of God but fell into sin, and therefore, lost. Only through regeneration or born again by the work of the Holy Spirit can man’s salvation and spiritual life be obtained. (Genesis 1:27, 3:1-19; Psalm 8:3-6; Isaiah 53:6; Romans 1: 18-32, 3:23, 12:2)

We believe that eternal salvation is the gift of God, entirely apart from man’s works, and is possessed by any and all who have faith in and receive Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Savior. (Matthew 18:8-9, 25:31-46; I John 3:16-18; I Thessalonians 4:14-17; Hebrews 9:27-28; Revelation 20:15)

We believe in the bodily resurrection of the dead, the everlasting blessedness of the saved in heaven, and the everlasting punishment and separation from God, of the unsaved in hell. (Matthew 18:8-9; 25:31-46; I John 3:16-18; I Thessalonians 4:14-17; Hebrews 9:27-28; Revelation 20:15)

We believe the church shall be autonomous, manage its own affairs and shall not be subjected to any other religious body or organization. (Acts 2:41-42; Ephesians 2:19-22; 4:11-13; Philippians 1:1; Colossians 1:18; I timothy 3:1-7; I Peter 5:1-40)
